Ispat Industries is the only Indian integrated steel producer and one of the few steel companies in the world to have the distinction of using the Compact Strip Production (CSP) technology to produce high-grade finished steel like hot rolled coils (HRCs), at Dolvi, near Mumbai in Maharashtra.

Ispat is also the only company in India to have a matching compact cold rolling mill at Kalmeshwar, near Nagpur in Maharashtra. Most steel makers the world over use the conventional hot strip mill route to roll out finished steel.

CSP allows Ispat to roll out HRCs with a thickness as low as 1 mm compared to a maximum low thickness of 1.5 mm, possible in conventional hot strip mills. CSP also allows Ispat to reduce manufacturing costs substantially compared to the conventional hot strip mill production technology.

Ispat's CSP module at its integrated steel plant in Dolvi, Maharashtra, has been fully integrated with Ispat's continuous arc (CONARC) process of steel making to give Ispat the distinction of being the only such company in India and in South Asia to have the latest state-of-the art steel making process.

Ispat also has the advantage of being capable of integrating and simultaneously using both the conventional blast furnace route and also the directly reduced iron-electric arc furnace route for steel making.

This gives Ispat the vital advantage of choosing any combination of raw material feed at any point of time, be it iron ore, pellets, sponge iron, scrap or hot metal from the blast furnace. It gives Ispat the added flexibility of alternative choices of energy sources to use for its steel making - be it coal, electricity or gas.

Ispat's technological development of integrating various steel making routes under one state-of-the-art plant has broken all world records in steel production and has even earned laurels from the technology suppliers of the CSP - SMS Demag of Germany.
