The sporting spirit
As
a corporate entity, our goal has always been to strengthen. To
strengthen people, to strengthen dreams, to strengthen a nation. To
create sturdy spirits, and to build powerful futures.
There is no human endeavour that is more geared towards doing these very
same things as sports. Sports can help people live their dreams. It can
build a solid character and make the spirit soar to greater heights. It
can promote goodwill, it can erase enmities, it can emphasise the
importance of being part of a team.
It is little wonder that, year after year, across the world,
organisations have been realising the vital role that sports has to play
in any society. Its role in raising the human spirit to new heights, and
its creation of worthy idols for children to look up to.
We have, in the recent past, renewed our commitment to the community
through sports. These last few months, therefore, we have put a lot into
fulfilling our corporate social responsibilities through the joy of this
wonderful medium.
The sixth edition of the Ispat Marathon was, once again, a resounding
success. A whopping seven thousand runners turned up for the event that
has made a name for itself by promoting the dreams of talented young
local sportsmen and sportswomen. I am proud to announce that the
marathon - just one of our many corporate social activities - is now one
of the most renowned district level annual events in Alibag.
I am also delighted that Ispat Industries co-sponsored the 19th National
Cricket Tournament for the Disabled. This tournament is very special,
and close to what we, as a company, stand for. It is about more than
just a game indeed, it is about how nerves of steel and an iron will can
perform tasks the world deems impossible.
We also took our commitment to athletics beyond the Ispat Marathon, and
towards the future generation of India's sporting stars. The Annual
Inter School Athletics Championship has been encouraging young talent
for over a century now, and Ispat was the proud co-sponsor of the 114th
edition of the championship.
Of course, in true Ispat spirit, our own employees will never be
ignored. They, too, were given a chance at the sporting fun with the
Ispat Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament.
I congratulate all those who earned laurels in these sporting events. In
fact, all those who participated, for participation is the first step
towards winning.
Through all the fun and frolic, though, was the very serious objective
of continuing to earn the respect and gratitude of the people whose
lives we actively choose to be involved in. Through it all, we sought to
reiterate our corporate social responsibilities which encompass rural
health, primary education, rural women empowerment and promoting
district level sports - something that has always been acknowledged in
the environment in and around where we are present.
